For the month of December, I have chosen all Eight of Pentacles. This is known as the ‘apprentice’ card. My first card is from The Mystic Dreamer’s Tarot and invites us to use our intuition. It describes a new path and one that requires attention, commitment, passion, aptitude and hard work to learn her art form well. Do not be discouraged, learning is never pointless. On the card, there is an image of a young woman who we see through twin arches looking out on a sea-scape. She hangs the pentacles on the wall of her studio and paints around them, perfecting her art as she works throughout the night.
Second 8 of Pentacles is from Universal Goddess Tarot by Maria Caratti and describes expert hands shaping and transforming the most ordinary clay into something magical. The goddess described in this card is from ancient China and her name is Nu Gua. She is the creator goddess who brings all life into being. Here in this image, we see a naked woman lying on the green grass with the pentacles surrounding and protecting her. She is surrounded with butterflies and flowers.
Thirdly, from Debra M Givin’s Cat’s Eye Tarot. The keywords are: Diligence, Knowledge and Detail. The reading is: Are you working to live or living to work? Are you using your talents to the fullest? Have you found meaningful work that satisfies you? Life is not always about achieving goals. Satisfaction comes from skilful execution of a task or learning something new. Here in the image we see Mother cat with her brood of kittens as she teaches them how to be a strong and healthy cat when they grow up.
Lastly, from Barbara Walker Tarot, we have the card titled ‘Learning’ and
we see a Mother priestess imparting wisdom to a novice who kneels before her
under a round stained glass rose window. The curtains are open showing
opportunity for enlightenment is here. In the background, a crone in a golden
cape comes with a lit candle showing that she is also in attendance to lend her
wisdom. After the failure of the previous card (7 of Pentacles) this card offers
help through new knowledge, extended understanding and the serenity which comes
from enlightenment.
